Thymic Hassall’s corpuscles in Nandanam chicken - light and electronmicroscopic perspective (Gallus domesticus)

The present study was aimed to study the light and electron microscopic studies of thymic Hassall's corpuscles was done in various age groups of Nandanam Chicken ranging from day-old to forty weeks. Hassall's corpuscles are special, unique structures present in thymic medulla and also in the cortex of all the age groups of Nandanam chicken (from hatch to forty weeks) in the present study. The normal human newborns thymus.

The thymic microenvironment constitutes a unique cell environment composed of thymic epithelial cells, myoid cells, and bone marrow-derived accessory cells for the differentiation, maturation and selection of T lymphocytes. The histological feature of thymus is markedly dependent on the age of individual and on various negative stimuli. Our study group consisted of fourteen newborns whose thymu...

Autoplastic Thymus Transplants

1. Regeneration of a thymus transplant is characterized by hypertrophy and hyperplasia of the reticulum cells, leading to the formation of small and large atypical Hassall bodies during the early stages. 2. Regeneration is usually complete by the 3rd week, when the newly formed lobules show differentiation into cortical and medullary zones, and typical Hassall bodies appear. 3. Typical Hassall'...

Fine structural evidence for hormone secretion by the human thymus.

The epithelial cells of the Hassall's corpuscles in 11 human thymus glands (nine cases of myasthenia gravis and two glands from patients undergoing surgical correction of congenital heart disease) have been examined by electron microscopy. In every instance the epithelial cells have the cytoplasmic organelle complex necessary for ;export'-type secretory activity and in addition contain large nu...

Expression of the membrane complement regulatory proteins (CD55 and CD59) in human thymus.

CD59 is one of the key molecules involved in cell protection against autologus complement. The fact that complement regulatory proteins are able to prevent hyperacute rejection of organs in pig to primate model, raises the question of possible complement regulatory protein (CRP) involvement in the maturation of immunological system. We report here that in foetal and postnatal human thymus, CD59...
